Welcome to our Flipped Classroom Blog

This is a Blog created by curriculum leaders and teachers from the International Community School (ICS) - London.

We are excited by this innovative teaching/learning approach called "Flipping Lessons" or "Flipped Classroom".

The idea has been introduced to us by the Head of Secondary ICS (Rose Threlfall) and supported by the Owner of ICS (Ben Toettcher).

Here is from where the idea came from:

Hi Guys,

I was introduced to this concept, 'flipping lessons', at the ECIS Istanbul conference - it was a tiny part of a short session on an ECIS new initiative, itunes .

Please take a look at the above link which explains things nicely and has excited me!
The concept links naturally with both our netbook and 'cloud' strategies and also links securely with our unfolding 'personalising learning' endeavours.

The Khan Academy is a treasure trove that needs exploring and testing regarding quality of its content and its claimed ability to motivate learners. However, it also provides an outstanding model from which we can all learn as we take steps to produce our own 'learning podcasts'

I think it is an initiative for next year, to be launched at our induction with everyone preparing at least one 'flipped lesson' during this time?"

We are a pilot group of teachers who would like to share our understanding about how this approach could enhance our teaching and student learning.

We would like to involve other colleagues from our school to consider and try out this approach and post relevant comments and observations in this Blog.

We welcome any comments from external educators and educational advisers.

Please have a look at the video clips below - you will receive a good idea about the key approaches we would like to focus on:

a brief introduction to the concept of "Flipped classroom".

We would like to share our mutual understanding about the "Flipped Classroom" concept and about the role of ICT technologies in this approach.

Ean Orlando Alleyne (IB MYP Coordinator/ Head of Mathematics) explains the concept and shares our initial ideas for a pilot implementation of "Flipping lessons".
